STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

MS in Computer Science

Having learnt from the past, I live in the present with an eye on the future. My foremost dream in life is to be acknowledged and congratulated for my academic achievements. This desire is the main motivation in me wanting to pursue my masters at your esteemed university. Computer science is an industry that has changed our lives and in a very short period of time it has changed our view of things around us. This is one industry that is going to shape our future for centuries to come. Hence I desire to do my Master’s in Computer Science.

My decision to pursue graduate study in Computer Science in the United States is underscored by my desire to be a part of the graduate program at your institution. George Mason University offers the flexibility needed for such a vast and rapidly changing field. The research facilities and the faculty at the university are par excellent. George Mason University also offers a pathway for students to be enrolled in the university through INTO Mason graduate pathway program so that they can integrate with ease into the American university life and consequently, improve their academic and English language skills. The high-quality learning experience at INTO George Mason University prepares students to progress with confidence to their respective degree programs and to be on par with their peers, hence I decided to get enrolled in the pathway program. In the first semester at INTO George Mason University, by studying courses such as Graduate Communications across disciplines and Introduction to graduate studies, it not only helped me get accustomed to the western culture socially and academically, but also introduced me to the knowledge of research papers. These courses helped me accomplish most of my personal objectives and prepared me for the future. At the end of the first semester, I can confidently tell that I am ready for the Masters in Computer science program at your university.

The influence yielded by computers never ceased to amaze me. During my engineering course I was introduced to the concepts of C, C++, JAVA and DBMS (Database Management Systems). Having learnt a good bit about computer languages through these subjects during my under graduate days, I decided to meliorate this knowledge with advanced skills in these languages. Consequently, I underwent training conducted by IBM. I was trained for web application development and deployment on cloud. I attained hands on experience on their RAD (Rational Application Developer), which accelerates the development and deployment of Java EE applications. Subsequently, I led a group of four people on a mini project in developing an e-commerce website called “E-Postal Services”. Through this, I gained experience with using Servlets and MVC (Model View Controller) packages in Java Enterprise Edition (J2EE). This project was adjudged as one of the best projects from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering of our college. This short stint has given me invaluable practical experience. It has given me the confidence to pursue a master’s degree in computer science and also kindled a desire in me to take up research work.

I strongly believe that a master’s degree from your university will be a deciding factor in shaping my future. My desire to pursue further studies at George Mason University would prepare me for the dynamic and ever-changing global atmosphere. It would be a great pleasure and honor for me if given a chance to ensue my graduate studies at the highly esteemed research driven university. I hope that you will find in me a deserving and creditable student for the renowned university.
